The eastbound lane of Old Post Road No. 6 shuts down Monday, Nov. 2, for round-the-clock drainage work expected to last two weeks.

The closure, between Stanwich Road and Valleywood Road, is part of a larger stormwater improvement project near Valleywood Road, Old Post Road No. 6 and East Putnam Avenue, according to Patch. The Greenwich Department of Public Works said the project aims to enhance stormwater infrastructure and address flooding in the area.

First Selectman Fred Camillo acknowledged the disruption in his weekly newsletter. "While we know it will be a temporary inconvenience, it will benefit this part of town," Camillo said, according to Patch's reporting.

The Greenwich Board of Selectmen approved plans for the temporary closure at its Sept. 24 meeting.

The westbound lane will remain open during the closure. Eastbound traffic will be directed to Field Road to reach Valleywood Road, according to a DPW memorandum included in the Board of Selectmen meeting packet.

Construction began earlier in October and is expected to take about two months total. The work schedule depends on weather.

A DPW memorandum prepared before the Sept. 24 meeting had estimated the lane closure would last approximately three weeks. The more recent Oct. 30 announcement puts the expected duration at two weeks.

During active construction, work hours run 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the DPW memorandum. Police and traffic-control personnel will be on site during those hours.

The town said it will make every effort to maintain access to homes and businesses throughout the project.

Drivers in the area should allow extra travel time and proceed with caution.
