A Latin American and Spanish music concert comes to Old Greenwich on Oct. 10 when INTEMPO performs its fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Month program at First Congregational Church of Greenwich.

The 3 p.m. concert, titled "Under the Same Moon," will feature Ashley Yoon, INTEMPO's 22-year-old inaugural artist-in-residence, alongside the Chamber Players, an ensemble of the nonprofit's most advanced students. Yoon will perform on the 1883 INTEMPO Giuseppe & Antonio Sgarbi violin.

The program spans folk, popular and classical traditions. Works include the Venezuelan classics "Moliendo Café" and "La Partida," José White's "La Bella Cubana" and Manuel Ponce's "Estrellita." The lineup also features Astor Piazzolla's "Yo Soy María" from his opera "María de Buenos Aires," plus Andean traditions from Ecuador and Bolivia and pieces by Chilean and Spanish composers.

Yoon graduated from The Juilliard School and is pursuing a master's degree at the Yale School of Music. Her recent credits include a concerto appearance with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, a solo performance at Carnegie Hall and concertmaster roles with ensembles at Yale and Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

INTEMPO CEO Lou Chen said in a news release reported by Patch that this year's concerts feature a record number of students. Chen called Yoon's performances alongside students an opportunity to uplift and inspire them in real time.

The Stamford-based nonprofit was founded in 2011 by violinist Angélica Durrell, who was motivated by her own experience as an immigrant student from Ecuador. The organization serves more than 600 children annually through after-school, summer and partnership programs, with most students coming from lower-income and immigrant households.

INTEMPO's work has drawn national recognition from Carnegie Hall, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture. In 2022, it became the only music education organization in Connecticut to receive the Lewis Prize for Music Accelerator Award, a $500,000 multi-year grant.

General admission is $15. Children get in free. Tickets are available at intempo.org.
