Three Division I lacrosse programs will play exhibition games at Greenwich High School's Cardinal Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10, as part of the Bronx Lacrosse Classic.
The women's game between Army and Syracuse starts at 10 a.m. The men's game between Army and Maryland follows at noon. Both matchups appear on USA Lacrosse's fall ball schedule.
A youth clinic for students in grades 3 through 8 runs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Coaches and players from all three programs will lead the session. The event listing and the Syracuse Athletics announcement differ on whether the clinic carries an additional registration fee beyond the game ticket.
Admission is $10 for adults. Children 12 and under pay $5. All proceeds go to Bronx Lacrosse, a nonprofit youth development program based in the South Bronx.
The event also includes food trucks and access to players and coaches, according to the event listing on Patch.
Who's playing
Syracuse women's lacrosse coach Regy Thorpe enters his second season after a 14-win campaign and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Attacker Molly Guzik, an IWLCA Third Team All-American and First Team All-ACC pick, returns for the Orange.
Army's women's program is coached by Michelle Tumolo, a Syracuse alumna who has compiled a 64-27 record in five seasons. Army went 15-5 last season and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The men's game features Army against Maryland, though Maryland Athletics has not issued a formal announcement confirming its participation.
About Bronx Lacrosse
Dan Leventhal founded Bronx Lacrosse in 2018 after launching an after-school lacrosse program at a South Bronx school where he taught special education math through Teach For America. The organization now serves about 300 participants ages 10 to 18, and according to its website, 90% qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Kyle Brillante, principal of Highbridge Green School, wrote in a testimonial posted during the pandemic that students in the program were outperforming peers in academic readiness and school attendance.
Tickets and clinic registration are available at BronxLacrosse.org.
