Greenwich police have filed 33 new felony charges against a New Rochelle, N.Y., man accused of funneling stolen personal data for more than 30 victims to co-conspirators through Telegram.

Onyedikachi Chukwujekwu Agu, 30, was arrested on a warrant Thursday, Oct. 1, according to the Greenwich Police Department's Instagram announcement. The charges include first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, first-degree identity theft, first-degree conspiracy to commit identity theft, 10 counts of trafficking in personal identifying information, 10 counts of third-degree forgery and 10 counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree forgery.

The case stems from a July 15 incident at a bank on Greenwich Avenue, where plainclothes officers from the department's Organized Retail Crime Abatement Unit (ORCA) detained four people for suspected financial crimes. Officers recovered forged financial instruments, stolen payment cards and altered checks at the scene.

Agu allegedly provided false identification to officers that day, Greenwich Free Press reported. His bond was set at $250,000. He was unable to post it.

After the July arrest, ORCA Officers DeLuca and Livingston seized Agu's cellphone and obtained a search warrant for its contents. The phone examination uncovered evidence of what police described as an organized financial fraud scheme.

Investigators determined Agu had transmitted personal identifying information for more than 30 identity theft victims to multiple co-conspirators through Telegram, the department said. In one exchange, he allegedly sent approximately 17 checks totaling $200,000 that were later altered.

ORCA officers contacted the victim, who confirmed his company had suffered a financial loss, police said.

Three men detained alongside Agu on July 15 were also charged: Jamel Shareef Craig, 32, of Brooklyn; Kevin Conrod Bastien, 32, of Brooklyn; and Keshane G. Tanner, 28, of the Bronx. All four were given a court date of July 29 in Stamford Superior Court. No outcome from that hearing has been reported.

Patch first reported the new charges. No next court date for Agu's Oct. 1 arrest has been announced.
