Greenwich crews will start picking up leaves on Monday, Nov. 9, weather permitting.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) announced the 2026 Leaf Collection Program on Oct. 30, with crews scheduled to work Monday through Saturday and make two collections per section. The program is expected to wrap up in mid-December.

Five sections go first: Sections 3 and 4 covering Old Greenwich and Riverside, Section 9 in Cos Cob, Section 13 in the Boro and Central Greenwich, and Section 17 in Glenville.

Who qualifies

The program covers residential properties of half an acre or less in the R-20 zone on public roads.

How to prep your leaves

The DPW asks residents to rake leaves as close to the edge of the street as possible. Piles should not sit in the road, on sidewalks, over catch basins or in open channels. Leaves can go in neat piles or biodegradable bags. Plastic bags will not be collected.

Branches, sticks and garden refuse must stay out of leaf piles.

The town prohibits placing leaves on public streets and highways, according to the Greenwich Sentinel. Violations may result in fines or summonses. Property owners or landscaping companies could be held liable for injuries, property damage or municipal expenses that result.

Schedule and alternatives

The full section-by-section schedule will be available starting Tuesday, Nov. 3, on the town's Leaf Collection Program webpage or by calling the 24-hour hotline at 203-618-7698.

Crews will not collect on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, or Friday, Nov. 27. Weather or other conditions may shift the schedule.

Residents who don't qualify for curbside pickup, or who want another option, can drop off leaves at the Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility with a permit. The DPW also suggests mulching leaves and leaving them in place.
