A 19-year-old Oxford man faces six felony charges after Greenwich Police accused him of wire fraud involving a compromised bank account and purchasing multiple money orders at local post offices.
Danly Jadon Vrine was arrested by warrant on Oct. 8, as first reported by Greenwich Free Press. Vrine was 18 at the time of the alleged crimes.
The Greenwich Police Department's Organized Retail Crime and Fraud Unit (ORCA) investigated the case, which dates to April 28. Police said Vrine and a co-conspirator were allegedly linked to a bank account compromised through an unauthorized wire transaction.
Vrine faces charges of first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, second-degree money laundering and conspiracy to commit second-degree money laundering. He also faces first-degree identity theft targeting a victim 60 or older involving more than $5,000, and conspiracy to commit that same charge.
The identity theft charge falls under Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-129b(a)(2), which applies when the victim is 60 or older and the value exceeds $5,000.
After his arrest, Vrine could not post a $250,000 bond and was held in a Greenwich Police cell block. Court records later showed he posted bond at $20,000. He is due in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 24.
ORCA is a plainclothes unit that has operated within the Greenwich Police Department since 2020, according to the department's website. The unit handles larceny, fraud and identity theft cases, and its investigations often connect with federal law enforcement and the NYPD.
In 2024, false-pretense scams cost Connecticut victims an estimated $31.9 million, according to the town's senior fraud prevention page citing the 2024 Crime in Connecticut Report. Most victims were 65 or older.
