Six musicians will take the stage at two Greenwich venues Sunday, Oct. 18, and Monday, Oct. 19, as the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony open their 55th season.

The program spans two centuries. It opens with Franz Schubert's String Quartet No. 8 in B-flat major, a piece the composer wrote in 1814 at age 17, according to the Greenwich Sentinel. Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová's Elegy, written for violin and piano, follows. Kaprálová died in 1940 at 25 but left behind a body of orchestral, chamber, piano and vocal work.

Two contemporary pieces round out the first half: David Cerutti's Amor Por El Presente and Frances White's The Book of Roses and Memory. White composed the latter in 2008 for viola and electronic sound, drawing on writings about historic rose varieties.

The concert closes with Joaquín Turina's Scène Andalouse, Op. 7. The Spanish composer blended classical forms with rhythms and melodic elements drawn from Andalusian musical traditions.

Performing are violinists Jorge Ávila and Susan Hytken Metcalf, violists David Creswell and Liuh-Wen Ting, cellist Daniel Miller and pianist Andrew Gordon. A complimentary wine and cheese reception follows the Sunday performance. The Monday concert also includes a reception during intermission.

Founded in 1971, the Chamber Players feature musicians from the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra and guest artists. The group presents four concert programs each season at venues across town, according to the ensemble's website.

The Sunday concert begins at 3 p.m. at Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Road. The program repeats Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Historical Society's Vanderbilt Education Center, 47 Strickland Road in Cos Cob. Tickets cost $45 for adults and $5 for students, according to a Patch listing for the event.
