Greenwich will add a French touch to its 250th anniversary celebrations Tuesday as the French flag rises over Town Hall for the annual Bastille Day ceremony.
The Alliance Française of Greenwich will host the flag-raising at 9 a.m. at 101 Field Point Road. First Selectman Fred Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin will read a proclamation in English, followed by Selectwoman Rachel Khanna reading it in French.
The ceremony will include performances of the French and American national anthems, followed by a community breakfast from Raphael’s Bakery. The event is free and open to the public.
The celebration continues Tuesday evening with an Apéro Amis gathering from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Bistro V, 339 Greenwich Ave. The event will mark the release of Robert Henrey’s new book, “A Tale of Two Revolutions.” Non-members pay $10; Alliance Française members can attend for free with an RSVP.
The Bastille Day events are part of Greenwich’s broader America’s 250th | Greenwich Commission programming, which is organizing community events through December 2026 to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The commission, created by First Selectman Fred Camillo and the Greenwich Historical Society, is working with local organizations including the Bruce Museum, Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, Greenwich Point Conservancy, American Red Cross, Greenwich United Way and Greenwich Library.
Recent and upcoming events include:
- Putnam Hill Park fence dedication: A new wrought iron fence was installed July 8 through a partnership between the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Horseneck Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
- Founder's Day: Greenwich will mark the town’s founding anniversary Saturday, July 19, with a proclamation during the 10 a.m. service at First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich.
- “Fashioning America: 250 Years of Greenwich Style”: The Greenwich Historical Society exhibition continues through Jan. 10, 2027.
