The Old Greenwich–Riverside Community Center (OGRCC) held its 62nd annual Set Sail Model Sailboat Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 18, drawing children, adults and families to Binney Pond for an afternoon of racing.
The event featured eight racing divisions between 1:15 and 3:15 p.m., the Greenwich Sentinel reported. Categories included children's homemade sailboats, OGRCC T-12 boat kits, adult sailboats and separate radio-controlled competitions for children and adults. Homemade, store-bought, motorized and radio-controlled boats all took to the water.
The regatta dates to 1962.
A Living Greenwich preview listed seven named divisions, ranging from homemade sailboats for children 10 and under to radio-controlled motor boats for adults. The Sentinel reported eight divisions total, though the eighth was not identified by name.
Entry cost $10 per boat with a $25 family maximum, according to the Living Greenwich listing. OGRCC also offered 12-inch sailboat kits for $35, available at its office at 48 Maple Ave.
Proceeds support the OGRCC scholarship fund, which helps families participate in the organization's recreational and educational programs, according to the Sentinel. The OGRCC, based at 90 Harding Road in Old Greenwich, has served the Greenwich community for more than 80 years, offering athletics, camps, arts and enrichment programs for residents of Old Greenwich, Riverside and surrounding neighborhoods.
At the 59th regatta in October 2023, OGRCC Executive Director Jen Ludington called the event "a staple in town" and "a great way for families to come together and have fun while learning about the science and engineering behind model sailboats," according to an OGRCC recap of that year's event. That year, participants raced homemade boats crafted from recycled materials alongside more intricate wooden models.
No results or winners from the 2026 regatta were available as of publication.
