Christina Rota wants to get more women on the water in Greenwich. Her plan: a women's boating club without the price tag of a yacht club membership.

Rota, 31, a third-generation Greenwich resident, told Patch, which first reported the story, that she hopes to announce club details before the 2027 boating season.

"I feel like there are so many yacht clubs and country clubs in town, but I want something that's more accessible and not necessarily something you have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars to be involved with," Rota said.

She has a point about cost. The Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club, the 88-year-old club at Grass Island Road, charges a $500 initiation fee and $385 in annual dues. Applicants also pay a $50 waitlist fee and a $100 application fee. The club has roughly 350 members and is at maximum capacity.

Rota envisions weekly meetups on Greenwich waters, restaurant outings and walks in Bruce Park, according to Patch. No dues structure or founding meeting has been announced.

Boating is a family affair for Rota. Her father, Anthony Rota, owned Rota Brothers Marine Inc. on Hamilton Avenue and served as dockmaster at Grass Island Marina, the town-run facility with about 150 slips. Christina Rota, a Greenwich High School graduate, bought a 13-foot Boston Whaler two years ago and began posting boating content on Instagram more frequently during the summer of 2026.

One video topped 130,000 views, Patch reported. Women in particular have reached out to Rota about learning to boat.
