Greenwich High's girls soccer team beat Norwalk 6-1 and Darien 2-1 last week, pushing its FCIAC record to 5-0-1.

The defending CIAC Class LL (Class Double-L) state champions are 6-1-1 overall, according to MaxPreps. They have won 13 of their last 15 matches dating to last season.

The Cardinals dominated Norwalk at Cardinal Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 24, building a 3-0 halftime lead. Head coach Simon Rumbold rotated his lineup, starting only one player from the previous four games, Greenwich Sports Beat reported.

Senior Chloe Gandler scored first at 17:20 of the opening half, heading in a corner kick from junior Grace Bennett. Junior Chloe Fuzesi made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. Junior Tessa Addeo then lofted a shot over the Norwalk goalkeeper to close the first-half scoring, with Bennett again assisting.

Fuzesi added her second goal in the 51st minute from roughly 20 yards out, with junior Maddie O'Gara assisting. Junior Kayla Glass scored twice late, in the 75th and 77th minutes, to cap the rout. Bennett assisted on Glass's first goal and finished with three assists.

"They played exactly the way we asked of them and I was really proud of them," Rumbold said of the rotated squad.

Greenwich followed up with a 2-1 road win at Darien on Saturday, Sept. 26. Scoring details from that match were not available, but the result extended the Cardinals' unbeaten FCIAC run to six games.

The lone blemish on Greenwich's league slate is a 3-3 draw with Ridgefield on Sept. 18. Rumbold told Greenwich Sports Beat the Cardinals led 3-0 at halftime before letting the lead slip, and he called the result a learning experience that exposed areas the team needs to develop.

Greenwich won the Class LL title in 2025 with a 4-0 victory over Amity Regional, capping an 18-2-2 season. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Tierney has stepped into the starting role this fall after junior Taylor DeVries was sidelined with a knee injury.

The Cardinals host Wilton on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium, then travel to Westhill on Thursday, Oct. 1, for a 4 p.m. league matchup.
