Scott Garsson's photograph of a Greenwich sunset earned him first place and a round of golf for four in the town's sixth annual community photo contest.

Greenwich Parks & Recreation Director Joe Siciliano announced the winners on Monday, Aug. 17, highlighting the creativity residents brought to this year's entries. Garsson's winning image, titled "Soaking in Sunset," earned him a foursome golf certificate for The Griff, the town-operated Griffith E. Harris Golf Course at 1323 King St.

Suzanne Minnick placed second with "Path Along Water," winning five single-entry park tickets and a single-entry parking ticket. Donna Mitchell Mabes took third for "Bruce Park in Fall" and received a Parks & Recreation gift basket.

Three winners. Three views of Greenwich.

A department committee selected the photographs from entries submitted during July, which is National Parks and Recreation Month. The contest was open to amateur photographers 18 and older, and parents or guardians could submit photos taken by minors. Each participant was allowed up to four original images, all of which had to be taken in Greenwich and feature Parks & Recreation facilities, programs or events. No identifiable people could appear in the shots.

"We are grateful to everyone who took the time to participate in this year's contest," Siciliano said in the announcement.

Winning photographs may appear in future department publications, social media and promotional materials. The Griff, where Garsson can redeem his prize, is an 18-hole, par 71 course designed in 1963 and open to Greenwich residents year-round.
