Greenwich runners will have a marquee fall race on home turf for the first time when the inaugural HSS Greenwich Half Marathon takes over Tod's Point on Sunday, Sept. 27.

The race is a first for the town.

The 13.1-mile, two-loop course winds through Greenwich Point Park and the coastal roads of Old Greenwich. According to the race's registration page, the certified course starts at 7 a.m. at Greenwich Point Park, with awards across multiple age divisions. Organizers describe participation as limited and expect the event to sell out.

Greenwich Road Runners Director Christopher Dawson said the club worked to secure Hospital for Special Surgery as title sponsor, calling the half marathon "what we believe will become a signature running event for Greenwich" in a Greenwich Free Press report Aug. 9.

HSS, the orthopedic and sports-medicine center with a Stamford location, signed on to lend its name to the event. Keith Parmalee, director at HSS Stamford, said the organization wants to support runners of all abilities and help build a race the community can return to year after year.

The event will also serve as a fundraising platform for Kids in Crisis, the Cos Cob-based nonprofit that provides emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community education for children and families. Participants and spectators are encouraged to donate.

Greenwich Road Runners, founded in 2015 as a chapter of the Road Runners Club of America, co-organized the America's 250th Greenwich Community 5K & Fun Mile on Saturday, June 6, with Greenwich United Way and the Bruce Museum. Additional sponsors for the half marathon include Slager Madry LLC, The Current Wellness and Threads & Treads.
