Greenwich firefighters would get 3% annual raises under a three-year contract the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) considered Monday, Oct. 26. The deal with Firefighters Local 1042 would cost the town an estimated 12.77% more over three years across 105 authorized positions.

The proposed collective bargaining agreement covers July 2026 through June 2029, according to the Greenwich Sentinel. It includes higher employee health care contributions alongside the salary increases.

The contract is the second agreement with Local 1042 reached without mediation or arbitration, according to Patch.

The RTM also considered a proposal to raise the annual harbor mooring fee from $100 to $150 starting in 2027. Boat owners who renew by March 1 would keep the $100 rate under the proposal.

Vote tallies on the firefighter contract and mooring fee increase were not available as of publication.

Building committee filled

One item did produce a clear result. The RTM voted 181–2, with two abstentions, to appoint Kaan Aslansan and Steven Siler to the building committee overseeing Greenwich High School's proposed natatorium, access driveway and tennis facilities. They join five previously appointed members, and the committee can now organize its work on the proposed campus improvements.

Dog season, tributes round out meeting

First Selectman Fred Camillo raised the possibility of extending the period when dogs are allowed at Greenwich Point. Dogs are permitted starting in December under current rules. Camillo expressed interest in moving that date to Nov. 1, the Greenwich Sentinel reported. The RTM rejected a similar proposal in 2025, and any change would require further review by town officials.

Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin also paid tribute to former First Selectman John Margenot, who died earlier in October. RTM Moderator Alexis Voulgaris recognized members who served in the military, including Kip Burgweger, Jan Kniffen, Steve Waters and James Waters in attendance. Joe Benoit, Tom West and Dan Izzo were also acknowledged for their service ahead of Veterans Day.
