Greenwich families with young children have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, to enter the lottery for Greenwich Public Schools' (GPS) integrated preschool program for the 2027-28 school year.
Children who turn three before Sept. 1, 2027, are eligible. The district will draw the lottery on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and send first-round offers the following week, according to the district's application form. Families who do not receive an offer letter are automatically placed on a waiting list.
Spots are limited. The tuition-based program pairs typically developing students with children who have special education needs in classrooms at seven elementary schools across town, according to Greenwich Free Press.
What it costs
The current school year's tuition is $10,924. The district anticipates a 4% increase for 2027-28, but that rate has not been finalized. The Board of Education must still approve the new figure in coming months, according to the application form.
Who gets priority
The lottery uses a two-tier priority system. The first tier covers siblings of students already enrolled in the preschool program who will continue next year. It also includes siblings of Magnet K-4 students at Hamilton Avenue School, New Lebanon School or Julian Curtiss School.
The second tier covers children who live within the attendance areas of those same three schools.
The application form advises families to list more than one school to improve their chances of landing a spot. Parents applying for more than one child must submit a separate application for each.
Where classrooms are located
The program operates at seven elementary schools: Cos Cob School, Hamilton Avenue School, Julian Curtiss School, New Lebanon School, North Street School, Old Greenwich School and Parkway School. Not every GPS elementary school houses a preschool classroom.
