Greenwich High's boys soccer FCIAC Tournament run ended Oct. 31 with a 2-0 semifinal loss to top-seeded, unbeaten Staples.

Three days earlier, the fourth-seeded Cardinals topped fifth-seeded Ridgefield 1-0 in the quarterfinals. Senior tri-captain Luca Ferrario scored the lone goal in the 24th minute at Cardinal Stadium, as Greenwich Sports Beat first reported. Junior Charlie Maniaci had the assist.

In the semifinal, Staples scored twice near the midway point of the first half. The Cardinals could not recover.

The matchup continued a postseason rivalry. Staples beat Greenwich 3-2 in the 2025 FCIAC Tournament final and 3-0 in the 2025 CIAC Class LL final.

The Wreckers, 16-0-1, advanced to the FCIAC championship game against Stamford. That final is set for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Fairfield Ludlowe High School at 6 p.m.

Head coach Kurt Putnam's Cardinals now shift their focus to the CIAC Class LL Tournament. Greenwich earned the No. 6 seed and will host No. 27 Kennedy in the first round on Friday, Nov. 6, or Saturday, Nov. 7, according to the tournament bracket. Second-round games are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9. The Class LL championship is set for Nov. 21 or Nov. 22.
