Greenwich Police arrested a Bronx man on a felony burglary charge after a homeowner caught him allegedly trying to enter a back country home on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Bryan Gerard Briggs, 52, faces a charge of criminal attempt at third-degree burglary, a class D felony, and criminal trespass in the second degree, a class B misdemeanor, according to a police account first reported by Greenwich Free Press.
The incident began around 10:15 a.m. when officers responded to a back country residence after a report that a bearded man was trying to enter the home. The homeowner confronted the man, who then left on foot heading south on King Street.
Police located Briggs near King Street and North Bowman Drive. The homeowner was in the area and pointed at Briggs, identifying him as the person who had attempted to enter his residence, according to the police account.
Investigators determined the targeted home was a single-family residence bordered on the street by a fence.
Briggs was arrested and his bond was set at $500. He was unable to post it. He was assigned a court date at Stamford Superior Court on Friday, Oct. 16, though the police account does not specify the type of proceeding.
Under Connecticut law, a conviction for attempted third-degree burglary, a class D felony, can carry up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. The class B misdemeanor trespass charge carries a maximum sentence of six months.
No attorney for Briggs has been identified in available records. The charges are allegations. Briggs has not been convicted.
