Greenwich Hospital earned the No. 2 spot among all Fairfield County hospitals in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 "America's Best Hospitals" rankings, trailing only Bridgeport Hospital in the Bridgeport Metro area regional list.
The rankings, released Friday, Aug. 14, evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide using measures including risk-adjusted survival rates, discharge-to-home rates, patient volume, nursing quality, best-practice compliance and patient experience, according to Daily Voice. The methodology drew on more than 800 million patient care records.
Greenwich Hospital also placed No. 4 statewide, behind Yale New Haven Hospital, Hartford Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital. Stamford Hospital ranked fifth in Connecticut.
The 206-bed hospital at 5 Perryridge Road, a member of Yale New Haven Health and academic affiliate of Yale School of Medicine, has served Greenwich and surrounding communities since 1903.
Pamela Sutton-Wallace, acting CEO of Yale New Haven Health, said the system's hospitals being recognized among the nation's best "reflects a shared commitment to excellence, collaboration and innovation as a premier academic health system."
No Greenwich Hospital spokesperson was quoted in the system-wide announcement.
A year of expansion
The ranking arrives during a stretch of growth for the Perryridge Road campus. On July 27, Greenwich Hospital received state approval to offer elective coronary angioplasty procedures at its Heart and Vascular Center, reducing the need for patient transfers to other facilities. In April, the hospital held a ceremonial wall-breaking for a new Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center being built inside the existing building, expanding local access to cancer treatment.
Greenwich Hospital also holds a CMS 5-star rating, the highest quality designation from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, as noted in a June 2026 Yale New Haven Health update.
Ben Harder, U.S. News' managing editor and chief of health analysis, said in an Aug. 4 statement about the rankings methodology: "When patients face a major surgery or a chronic medical condition, having access to clear, quality data is vital."
