Greenwich High's girls swimming and diving team puts its unbeaten record on the line Wednesday, Sept. 30, against New Canaan at the Greenwich High School pool.

The 3:30 p.m. meet carries a "Ladies in Red" theme tied to National Women's Health and Fitness Day, with fans encouraged to wear red. Diving will be held separately at 7 p.m. at the Greenwich YMCA.

First-year head coach Megan Kelly organized the theme, CTInsider reported. Both Greenwich and New Canaan feature red as a team color and are led by all-female coaching staffs.

"Both teams proudly feature red as a team color and are led by female coaching staffs, making this a fun opportunity to celebrate the women and girls who participate in and support athletics," Kelly said in an email to media, according to CTInsider.

The Cardinals enter at 2-0 after beating Westhill/Stamford 88-61 and Staples 106-72. New Canaan is 1-1, with a win over Fairfield Ludlowe (98-80) and a loss to Ridgefield (98-83).

Greenwich won the FCIAC, Class LL and State Open championships last season. But Kelly, a Greenwich High graduate and former All-American who swam for the University of California, Santa Barbara, told CTInsider in a Sept. 15 profile that she sees the Cardinals as underdogs this year after graduating several high-scoring seniors.

Kelly and assistant coach Jennifer "JJ" Worden are both first-year coaches. The program they inherited has won 54 CIAC championships.

Senior captains Ellison Charette, Julia Kozman, Kensie Worden and Izzie Nassa lead the roster. Juniors Olivia DeVries and Sara Jee add depth. Sophomore Alden Charette, who won the Class LL and State Open diving titles as a freshman last season, headlines the diving lineup.

New Canaan counters with senior captains Julie Frangione, Kaitlyn Knowles and Cora Huang, plus senior Emilia Bieliauskaite and junior Sydney Bonheur.

Greenwich's next meet is at Ridgefield on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. at Barlow Mountain Pool.
