Greenwich hedge fund founder Steve Cohen tops Connecticut's wealth rankings for a third straight year with an estimated $26.7 billion fortune, Forbes reported.

Cohen, 70, appeared on the magazine's "Richest Person In Every State" list, which calculated net worths as of Oct. 9. His fortune grew from $23 billion in 2025, according to Greenwich Time, which reported on the separate Forbes 400 list in September. He ranked No. 43 nationally on that list.

The Point72 Asset Management founder built his fortune through the hedge fund industry. His Stamford-based firm manages $58 billion in assets and began taking outside capital in 2018, according to Forbes, as Patch reported.

Cohen previously ran SAC Capital, which Forbes said was among the most profitable hedge funds before the firm pleaded guilty to insider trading charges. The plea cost Cohen $1.8 billion in penalties.

He rebuilt. In 2020, Cohen purchased the New York Mets for $2.4 billion, which was the highest sale price for a Major League Baseball team at the time.

Beyond finance and baseball, Cohen has donated more than $1 billion to philanthropic causes, many in Fairfield County, according to Forbes. The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, founded in 2001, has directed more than $1.5 billion to nonprofit organizations nationwide.

Cohen is far from Greenwich's only billionaire on the Forbes 400. Greenwich Time reported four other town residents made the list: Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio at No. 62 with $18.9 billion, Brad Jacobs of roofing and building materials company QXO Inc. at No. 98 with $13.3 billion, Lone Pine Capital founder Stephen Mandel Jr. at No. 302 with $5.7 billion and data management firm Veeam co-founder Ratmir Timashev at No. 315 with $5.4 billion. AQR Capital Management co-founder Clifford Asness, whose firm is based in Greenwich, ranked No. 215 with $8 billion.

Connecticut ranked No. 10 nationally with 20 billionaires, according to Forbes.
