Greenwich anglers chasing a $25,000 payday have until Friday, Aug. 28, to sign up for the 44th Annual WICC Surfside Hotel Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth, and they can register in person at Sportsman's Den in Cos Cob.

The tournament runs Saturday, Aug. 29, through Sunday, Aug. 30, across Long Island Sound, according to a Patch community listing. Lines go in at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and must come out by 5 p.m. Sunday. The heaviest bluefish wins the grand prize.

Sportsman's Den, at 33 River Road, is the only official in-person registration site in the Greenwich area and one of just 12 across Connecticut. Owner Billy Ingraham's shop has served local anglers for more than 50 years, offering bait, tackle and charter boats. Registration costs $36 per angler and is also available online at bluefishtournament.com.

Beyond the top prize, the tournament pays out more than $40,000 total: $7,500 for second place, $2,500 for third and smaller cash awards through 20th place. Each official weigh station also hands out a Port Prize for the heaviest fish weighed there.

Young anglers get their own stakes. A $1,000 cash prize goes to the largest bluefish caught by a youth angler 17 or under, with $100 gift cards for second and third.

The tournament spans Connecticut and New York waters, with 12 registration and weigh stations in Connecticut and seven on the New York side. The nearest New York location to Greenwich is Tyalure Tackle in Rye.

WICC, 99.1 PLR, STAR 99.9 and WEBE108 will broadcast hourly leaderboard updates throughout the weekend. Registration closes Friday, Aug. 28, at 11:59 p.m. Sportsman's Den can be reached at (203) 869-3234.
