Greenwich High School landed the No. 4 spot among Connecticut's 207 public high schools in Niche's 2027 Best Public High Schools rankings, released Wednesday, Sept. 30.
New Canaan High School topped the state list, followed by Staples High School in Westport at No. 2 and Darien High School at No. 3, Patch reported.
Niche, a school-research platform, evaluated 93,000 public schools nationwide for the annual analysis. The 2027 methodology weighs state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality and high school ratings, drawing on U.S. Department of Education data and more than 3 million user reviews from students, parents and teachers.
One notable change this year: Niche dropped SAT and ACT scores from its formula, citing the broader de-emphasis on standardized testing in college admissions.
On its GHS profile page, Niche gave the school an overall A grade. Greenwich High earned A-plus marks in three categories: Teachers, Clubs & Activities and Sports. It received an A in Academics, College Prep and Administration, and an A-minus in Diversity, Food and Resources & Facilities. The profile carries 512 user reviews and a 3.9-out-of-5 rating.
The result is the second strong showing for GHS in a national ranking this year. In August, U.S. News & World Report placed the school second in Connecticut and 194th nationally, with a score of 98.92 out of 100.
Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones, responding to that U.S. News ranking in an August statement to Patch, said the district would "not lose sight of what is most important: preparing each and every student for the future." She said the school's open-access approach to differentiation aims to ensure equitable pathways for all students.
Niche also introduced separated public and private school lists for several specialty categories this year, including Best Schools for the Arts, Most Diverse Schools and Best College Prep Schools. The full state rankings are live on Niche's website.
