Every stroke in Saturday's One Mile Swim will help more Greenwich children stay safe in the water.
Saturday's One Mile Swim isn't just a race — it's helping dozens of Greenwich children learn a skill that could save their lives.
The 37th Annual One Mile Swim returns to Greenwich Point on Saturday, July 11, raising money for free YMCA swim lessons. This year, 89 Greenwich fourth-graders will receive scholarships after water safety screenings showed they needed additional instruction.
Each year, the YMCA of Greenwich partners with Greenwich Public Schools to evaluate about 600 fourth-grade students. Those who need more help are invited to attend free, eight-week swim lessons funded by the annual event.
The race begins at 7:30 a.m., with check-in at 6:30 a.m. at Greenwich Point, 1 Todd's Driftway. Registration is $65 for adults and $30 for swimmers under 18, and same-day registration will be available.
Last year's event drew more than 100 swimmers, and organizers hope this year's turnout will help even more local families access swim lessons.
