Greenwich residents can learn CPR, how to stop severe bleeding, and what to do during an allergic emergency at Rescue Rush on Sunday, July 19, at the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center in Old Greenwich.
Hosted by the Greenwich EMS Explorer Post, the free community event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and celebrates Greenwich EMS' 40th anniversary. Visitors can rotate through hands-on emergency response stations, and anyone who completes every challenge will earn a prize.
It won't just be about first aid. The event also features food from Food Truck Refinery and Kona Ice, plus live music from School of Rock and Rock Paper Soul, making it a family-friendly day out.
The event is organized by Explorer Post 911, a student-led program for teens ages 14 to 18 who are interested in emergency medicine. Participants can train alongside EMTs, earn EMS certifications, and even assist on real emergency calls under supervision.
This year also marks a major milestone for Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS). First Selectman Fred Camillo has proclaimed July 15, 2026, as Greenwich EMS 40th Anniversary Day, recognizing the nonprofit organization for providing the town's emergency medical care since 1986. Today, GEMS responds to tens of thousands of calls and averages a response time of less than five minutes.
Rescue Rush is open to all ages. The Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center is located in Old Greenwich, and registration information is available at the event website.
