Greenwich women can join the Junior League of Greenwich through a one-day training class on Wednesday, July 22, at 231 E. Putnam Ave. The session runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is the only entry point before fall for the nearly 500-member volunteer organization.

After completing the class, new members join one of the league's committees working on community projects and programs across town.

"Last year we welcomed more than 40 new members," said Sara Burns Davis, president of the Junior League of Greenwich, in an announcement posted July 14.

The league, which has operated in Greenwich for more than 65 years, is best known for raising $2.5 million through more than 970 private donations to help build the Greenwich Pool in Byram Park. That pool opened in June 2018 and expanded capacity from 40 swimmers to 300. The organization also founded the Den for Grieving Kids in 1993, a peer support program for children and families later passed to Family Centers, and created Positively Me!, a free confidence-building program for third-grade girls.

Two additional one-day classes follow in the fall. A second session runs Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a two-day class meets Wednesday, October 14, and Wednesday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. All classes are held at 231 E. Putnam Ave.

For women who want to meet current members before signing up, the league is hosting two open houses at its headquarters: a happy hour on Tuesday, September 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and a coffee chat on Tuesday, September 15, from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m.

Registration details are available at greenwich.jl.org or by calling 203-869-1979.
