A Flood Watch remained in effect across Greenwich on Monday, July 6, as forecasters warned of possible flash flooding from a second round of heavy storms in a town still strewn with debris from the July 4 thunderstorm.
The National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center placed coastal Connecticut, including Greenwich, under a Level 3 out of 4 flash-flood risk, with rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour possible.
A line of severe thunderstorms swept through Greenwich on Saturday evening, bringing winds of 65 mph or higher along with rain and hail. The storm knocked out power to more than 1,300 Eversource customers in town and blocked dozens of roads with fallen trees and downed wires.
The town’s Office of Emergency Management said slow-moving thunderstorms could bring 2.5 to 3 inches of rain across the area, with localized totals of 4 inches or more. In spots where storms repeatedly track over the same area, totals could top 6 inches.
