Paving crews will hit more than 30 Greenwich streets starting Wednesday, July 8, as the town’s annual summer roadwork program gets underway.

Crews will work west to east, beginning in Byram and ending in Old Greenwich, according to the Department of Public Works. Greenwich Police officers or flaggers will be stationed at every active work zone to direct traffic and pedestrians.

Short-term delays are expected. The town is urging motorists to use alternate routes and slow down near work crews.

The DPW has scheduled about 33 street segments across four sections of town:

Byram: Byram Road from West Putnam Avenue to the railroad bridge; Comly Avenue; two sections of Edgewood Avenue; Edgewood Drive; Hamilton Avenue from the railroad bridge to Ritch Avenue; John Street West; and Ritch Avenue from the Interstate 95 northbound ramp to Hamilton Avenue.

Borough: East Elm Street from Davis Avenue to Milbank Circle; Fawcett Place from Greenwich Avenue to Mason Street; and Railroad Avenue from Steamboat Road to Arch Street.

Cos Cob: Burying Hill Road; Indian Field Road from East Putnam Avenue to the Interstate 95 bridge; a section of Round Hill Road near John Street; and Stanwich Road from Orchard Street to Dingletown Road.

Old Greenwich: Cove Ridge Lane; Cove View Drive; Edgewater Drive; Harding Road; Hendrie Drive; Heusted Drive; Little Cove Lane; Little Cove Place; Lockwood Avenue; Lockwood Drive; Lockwood Road; Meadow Place; Mortimer Drive; Riverside Avenue in two sections; Susan Lane; Wahnetta Road; and Winthrop Drive.

The DPW said access to homes and businesses will remain open at all times. Residents who need to enter or leave a driveway during active paving should speak with the officer on site.

The schedule may shift because of weather or contractor availability. Message boards may be posted in neighborhoods ahead of paving work, and the town will update its paving page on DPW's website.
