The beeping, the idling exhaust, the buses at all hours — for neighbors near three Greenwich sites, it's finally about to stop.

Neighbors near Western Middle School, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Old Greenwich train station can expect quieter mornings starting Aug. 1, when Greenwich Public Schools moves its entire 90-bus fleet to a single lot on Selleck Street in Stamford. The district signed an 11-month lease worth $750,144, according to spokesperson Jonathan Supranowitz.

The consolidation ends a chaotic year that scattered buses across three sites: more than 30 near Western Middle School's playing fields, about 30 at St. Paul's, and 24 at the Old Greenwich train station. Residents of the neighboring Old Greenwich Gables condos complained for months about beeping, idling exhaust and early-morning driver activity.

"Welcome news to Old Greenwich Gables residents who have been impacted over the last year," said Kevin Conway, president of the Gables residents association.

The scramble began when the district switched bus providers from First Student to DATTCO, which lacked access to First Student's former lot. Officials considered other sites, including one under I-95 in Cos Cob that the state rejected on safety grounds.

Superintendent Toni Jones told the Western Middle School community the town's Parks and Recreation Department will restore the grassy field once buses clear out. DATTCO will bring newer buses for the 2026-27 school year and offer more competitive pricing, Jones said.

The 24 buses at the train station lot will stay through Aug. 1 for summer school use. The Selleck Street lease runs through June 30, 2027.
