The Greenwich Police Department's administrative phone lines stopped working during Saturday night's Fourth of July storm, cutting off non-emergency calls to and from the department overnight before service was restored Sunday morning, July 5.
The outage hit both incoming and outgoing administrative lines. Residents who tried calling GPD for non-emergency matters got no answer. Emergency 911 service was never affected.
Greenwich Emergency Management Director Joe Laucella confirmed the scope of the problem in an 8:00 a.m. update on Sunday. The town's entire network and internal phone systems went offline due to storm-related impacts, he reported, though 911 remained fully operational.
As of July 5, GPD's administrative phone lines are functioning normally. Residents should call 911 only for genuine emergencies. To report downed trees or blocked roads, contact the Greenwich Department of Public Works or the town's emergency management office.
