A long-awaited safety upgrade is finally arriving at one of Greenwich’s busiest intersections.
The new traffic signal at Pemberwick Road and Glenville Road will begin full operation Thursday, July 9, marking the latest milestone in the town’s Glenville Corridor safety improvement project, which has been in the works since 2019.
Crews from Ny-Conn Corporation, the project’s electrical contractor, are scheduled to activate the signal between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the town’s construction schedule. The intersection has been flashing since July 2 to give drivers time to adjust.
The intersection serves as a key route for commuters heading toward the Merritt Parkway, Hutchinson Parkway and I-684, while also carrying school traffic from nearby campuses.
The federally funded project aims to improve traffic flow while adding safety features for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
What’s changing
At Pemberwick Road and Glenville Road, improvements include:
- A new full traffic signal replacing the previously uncontrolled intersection
- Dedicated left- and right-turn lanes on Pemberwick Road
- A dedicated westbound left-turn lane on Glenville Road
- New sidewalks and crosswalks
- Three new parking spaces on Glenville Road near the pizzeria
The project also upgraded signals and added sidewalks at three other intersections along the 1,500-foot Glenville Corridor study area: Glenville Street at the shopping center driveway, Glenville Street at Riversville Road and Glenville Road at Weaver Street.
Following the signal activation, catch basin cleaning on Glenville Road is scheduled for the week of July 13.
