A summer evening of music, memories and community connection is coming to one of Greenwich’s most historic care facilities.
Friends of Nathaniel Witherell will host “The Music of Memories Garden Party” Thursday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Rose Garden at The Nathaniel Witherell, bringing residents, families and community members together to support programs at the town-owned skilled nursing facility.
The event is part of Friends of Nathaniel Witherell’s ongoing effort to strengthen the connection between the facility and the wider Greenwich community. The nonprofit helps fund chaplaincy services at Witherell, including spiritual support, worship services and programs for residents, families and staff.
One of those traditions is the annual Blessing of the Hands ceremony, held during Nurses Week to honor the caregivers who provide daily support to residents. Chaplain Jenny Byxbee led this year’s ceremony for nursing staff, according to the Greenwich Sentinel.
Located on 24 acres along Parsonage Road, The Nathaniel Witherell has served Greenwich residents since 1903 and remains the only municipally operated nursing home in Connecticut. The 202-bed facility provides skilled nursing care and short-term rehabilitation services for seniors and veterans.
Friends of Nathaniel Witherell operates under the motto “Bridging Care and Community” and supports the facility through donations, volunteers and community events.
