Six chukker weren't enough.

Nicolas Diaz Alberdi buried the golden goal in sudden-death overtime to lift Fly House to a dramatic 15-14 victory over Round Hill on June 28, capturing the 2026 East Coast Silver Cup title at Greenwich Polo Club.

The win capped a thrilling three-week, 16-goal tournament featuring seven teams at the club's Conyers Farm field, where fans were treated to one of the most exciting championship matches of the summer.

A back-and-forth battle

Fly House looked poised to cruise early, building a 7-3 lead after the second chukker.

Round Hill refused to go away.

The comeback was complete by the fifth chukker, when Round Hill evened the score at 11-11 before the teams battled to a 14-14 deadlock at the end of regulation, setting the stage for sudden-death overtime.

With open field ahead of him, Diaz Alberdi seized the moment.

"When I saw the ball coming and had the space to run to the goal, I was like I had to make the most of the opportunity," Diaz Alberdi told the Greenwich Sentinel. "We knew we had to play really well and make the best of every moment out there."

Standout performances

Fly House's Manuel Villamil was named the championship match's Most Valuable Player after another stellar performance.

The 5-goal-rated player also delivered the game-winning goal in Fly House's 11-10 semifinal victory over Dracarys on June 22, earning MVP honors in that match as well.

Fly House's championship lineup featured Andrew Gundlach, Diaz Alberdi, Villamil and Felipe Miguens. Miguens' horse, Fly Boa, received Best Playing Pony honors, while Round Hill's Machitos Dolca, ridden by Victorino Ruiz Jorba, earned Best Playing Pony Argentine.

The Silver Cup title adds to Fly House's growing success at Greenwich Polo Club after winning the East Coast Open championship in 2025.

More than just polo

The championship wasn't only about what happened on the field.

Spectators packed white tents, cabanas and lawn tables as food trucks and vendors lined the grounds. Live music from MOJO filled the CTC&G Players' Lounge before the celebration concluded with a traditional Argentine asado and dancing.
