Greenwich natives Ben and Pete Van Leeuwen are bringing a new product back to the town where they got their start: frozen yogurt, debuting Thursday, Aug. 13, at 375 Greenwich Avenue.

To mark the launch, the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream shop will sell $1 small frozen yogurts from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Toppings cost extra.

The frozen yogurt is made with organic A2 Bulgarian yogurt and comes in four flavors: Tart, Matcha, Passion Fruit and Coconut. Customers can order flavors individually or swirled together, with toppings ranging from pistachio kataifi and mochi to brownie pieces and Biscoff cookie crumble.

The Greenwich store is the first Connecticut location to carry the frozen yogurt, which Van Leeuwen first introduced at its NoHo shop in New York City in March, according to Time Out New York. The company plans to expand the offering to other Connecticut stores in the coming months.

"Launching it in Greenwich feels especially meaningful because it's where Pete and I first got our start, and we're excited to share something new with the community that inspired us," co-founder and CEO Ben Van Leeuwen said in a statement to Greenwich Free Press.

The brothers' connection to Greenwich runs deep. The summer before Ben's senior year at Greenwich High School, the pair rented a Good Humor truck and spent two summers selling ice cream around town, according to a profile on Masters of Scale. Ben used those earnings to travel through Asia and Europe, where he found inspiration in the quality and accessibility of food abroad. In 2008, Ben, Pete and Laura O'Neill launched Van Leeuwen as a single yellow scoop truck in New York City. The brand has since grown to more than 100 storefronts nationwide.

When Greenwich Public Schools named Ben Van Leeuwen the 2025 commencement speaker in May 2025, GHS Principal Ralph Mayo called his success story "rooted in his time as a Cardinal."

The $1 frozen yogurt deal is available only on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at 375 Greenwich Ave.
