Riverside School has a new assistant principal, and so does New Lebanon School in Cos Cob. Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones announced both appointments on Monday, July 20, filling assistant principal vacancies at two elementary schools five weeks before the first day of classes.
Larissa Weir will serve as assistant principal at Riverside School, working alongside Principal Mary Dolan Collette, who stepped into the top job on July 1 after three years as assistant principal. Weir comes from Stamford Public Schools, where she spent the 2025-2026 school year as interim assistant principal at Julia A. Stark Elementary School. Before that, she coached teachers on multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) at Stamford's Westover Magnet School.
Her career in education spans 15 years, starting as a Teach for America corps member teaching seventh and eighth grade science at New Haven's Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy.
"Not only is she a very talented math and science educator, but her experience as an interventionist and building level support, to help all students find success, will be a major asset," Dr. Jones said in a district announcement. "This past year, she partnered closely with primary teachers to successfully roll out and implement a new academic curriculum."
A familiar face at New Lebanon
At New Lebanon School, the new assistant principal already knows the hallways. Delis DeLeon taught fourth grade there during the 2025-2026 school year. She replaces Lindsey Eisenstein, who moved to the assistant principal role at Cos Cob School at the end of last school year.
DeLeon's path to school leadership started as a parent coordinator at P.S. 294 in the Bronx, where she spent three years connecting families to school administration before earning her teaching degree. She later taught special education in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from 2022 through 2025.
Dr. Jones said the interview committee of parents and teachers "found her inspiring," noting DeLeon's history of ensuring strong academic performance and her commitment to the home-to-school connection.
DeLeon said her first year in Greenwich "truly felt like coming home" and that the new role gives her greater opportunities to collaborate with students, families, and staff under Dr. Russo's leadership as principal.
New Lebanon earned recognition as a 2026 Connecticut Blue Ribbon School on Thursday, May 21, one of only six schools statewide honored for academic excellence and inclusive learning environments. The school enrolls about 360 students in pre-K through fifth grade, with nearly 60 percent eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
What's next
Both appointments take effect immediately. The first day of school for all Greenwich Public Schools students is Friday, August 28.
