About 40 teens and young adults with and without disabilities will share one stage when Off-Beat Players opens "Footloose" Thursday at the Greenwich Country Day School Kerrick Performing Arts Center.

One company, no exceptions.

The Greenwich-based nonprofit, founded in 2008, builds its annual summer show around a single principle: performers of different abilities rehearse, learn and perform together as one company, with no separate track for anyone. Every cast member carries the same production, dancing and singing side by side.

Performances run at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at 401 Old Church Road, with the cast backed by a live orchestra — a tradition the organization has kept going since its earliest years.

How the show came together.

Off-Beat Players opened auditions in May to performers ages 13 to 25, and the resulting company spent the summer building a fully staged musical complete with coordinated singing, dancing and orchestral accompaniment. The stage adaptation comes from Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, based on Pitchford's original screenplay, with music by Tom Snow, lyrics by Pitchford, and additional songs from Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.
