Jewish Riverside Old Greenwich will hold Rosh Hashanah services on both days of the holiday at the newly renovated Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, starting Friday, Sept. 11.

The community group, known as J-ROG, describes its expanded schedule as featuring Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur prayers, programs and community connections, according to the organization's High Holiday services page. The Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, a Town of Greenwich Parks and Recreation facility, sits at 90 Harding Road in Old Greenwich.

Cantor Yosef David will lead traditional prayers at the Rosh Hashanah services. The schedule also includes programming for high school students and an interactive family and children's program, Greenwich Free Press reported.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, Sept. 11, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 13, marking the start of the Jewish year 5787.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, at 5 p.m., J-ROG will host a community Shofar blowing and Tashlich gathering at Binney Park in Old Greenwich. Tashlich is a Rosh Hashanah observance held near water, accompanied by prayers and reflection for the new year.

Yom Kippur services, including Kol Nidrei, will take place at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Sunday, Sept. 20, and ends at nightfall on Monday, Sept. 21.

All services are free and open to the community.

The civic center reopened after a construction project that began in May 2022. The Greenwich Lions Club held a pancake breakfast there in April. A social media post from the center this summer said the building had been open about four months.
