Downtown Greenwich residents and merchants can renew their parking permits on an annual basis under a change approved by the Greenwich Board of Selectmen.

The Board approved the shift to annual renewals for the Central Greenwich Resident and Merchant Parking Permit program, according to the town's Parking Services page. Parking Services has called the program, launched in 2021, a success.

The permits cost $805 per year. That all-in price includes Connecticut sales tax and a $10 processing fee, reflecting a base permit rate of $795, up from $720 for the first time in five years. The Board of Selectmen reviewed the fee increase in August 2026.

A total of 225 permits will be shared between qualified residents and merchants. Each permit is valid in any of ten long-term, 12-hour municipal parking lots throughout the Central Greenwich area.

Permits run through the end of the calendar year. Costs are prorated to the first day of the month the permit is issued, so someone buying in mid-October would pay from Oct. 1.

Current permit holders will receive mail and email notices explaining how to renew online. New applicants must join a waitlist and will be considered only if permits remain after the renewal period closes at year's end.

Deputy Police Chief James Bonney, who leads Parking Services, presented the fee increase to the Board of Selectmen at an Aug. 12 meeting. "Since we haven't done this in five years, we felt it was the time to do it," Bonney said at the time, as reported by Patch. He cited upcoming lot repaving and Town Hall garage repairs as cost drivers, noting the price of concrete and asphalt had surged.

First Selectman Fred Camillo signaled at the same August meeting that the town wanted to keep permit costs in check relative to neighboring communities.

The merchant permit program, approved in 2021 for businesses within the central Greenwich business district, operates under the same terms and shares the 225-permit pool.
