If you hear construction at Hamilton Avenue School this weekend, it's part of a push to finish the school's new parking deck before one of Greenwich's biggest summer events.

Town officials are trying to wrap up work ahead of the St. Roch's Church Feast, which runs Aug. 12-15 and brings thousands of visitors to the neighborhood each year.

At its meeting Thursday, July 23, the Board of Selectmen unanimously approved closing St. Roch Avenue between Hamilton Avenue and Alexander Street during the four-day festival. At the same time, Greenwich Public Schools requested permission for construction crews to work beyond the town's normal noise ordinance hours on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, to keep the parking deck project on schedule.

"Greenwich Public Schools is trying to complete the work on the parking deck before the feast," district spokesperson Jonathan Supranowitz said Thursday. "That's why we are working weekends."

The road closure was approved on a 3-0 vote after church officials told the board they were nearly finished securing the remaining permits for the annual celebration.

"If you're 99% of the way there, I'm not worried about it," First Selectman Fred Camillo said before the vote.

The parking deck has been under construction since summer 2025 as part of ongoing improvements at Hamilton Avenue School. Town officials hope completing the project before the feast will ease parking and traffic in the busy neighborhood.

Greenwich's noise ordinance generally limits construction to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but the town is considering an exemption to allow crews to work outside those hours this weekend. As of Thursday evening, it was not clear from public records whether the exemption had been formally approved.

Residents in the area should expect additional construction activity over the weekend as crews work to complete the project before the annual feast begins in August.
