Greenwich police arrested two juveniles early Thursday, Sept. 17, after a stolen car crashed into a utility pole on Lake Avenue, the department said.

The incident began at 12:29 a.m. when a north Greenwich resident reported seeing several people near vehicles parked in a neighbor's driveway, according to Patch. The resident called police after watching a white Jeep Grand Cherokee leave the driveway.

Responding officers found the stolen Jeep near North Maple Avenue alongside a Honda HR-V. Both vehicles fled northbound onto Lake Avenue when officers tried to stop them.

Police deployed a tire-deflation device on the Honda. The driver kept going on flat tires, lost control on a curve and struck a utility pole. The occupants ran.

Officers set up a perimeter and searched the surrounding area using the department's drone and K-9 units. Two juveniles were found and taken into custody without incident.

One juvenile faces five charges: engaging police in a pursuit, evading responsibility, theft of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer and criminal trover, a charge related to possessing stolen property, according to Greenwich Free Press. The second was charged with conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer and criminal trover. Both were issued juvenile summonses, and police have not released identifying information about either arrestee.

Investigators determined the Honda had been stolen from Bethel. Officers also recovered identification linked to a separate theft in Newtown, according to police.

The status of the white Jeep Grand Cherokee was not addressed in the department's announcement.
