Greenwich's ferry season ends Sunday, Sept. 13, closing out service from the Arch Street Dock to Island Beach and Great Captain Island.

The Town of Greenwich ferry schedule shows a handful of runs left before the boats go quiet until June 2027. Riders who want one more trip to the islands have three windows to catch a departure.

Sept. 8–11: no ferries

No boats will run Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday, Sept. 11.

Final weekend: hourly service

Island Beach ferries return Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, departing on the hour. The official town schedule lists Sept. 12 departures from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sept. 13 departures from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Great Captain Island ferries also make their final runs that weekend, with departures Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After Sept. 13, both routes shut down until June 2027.

Fares

Resident pass holders pay $7 per ride (ages 16–64), $6 (ages 5–15) or ride free (65 and older). Single-entry visitors pay $15 plus a $10 parking fee (ages 16–64), $10 plus the $10 parking fee (ages 5–15) or $9 (65 and older). Children 4 and under need no pass. Combo tickets are available on the town's website.

All departure times are weather-dependent.

Concession stand winding down too

The Island Beach Concession Stand, managed for a sixth straight year by Greenwich nonprofit Abilis, stays open on weekends through Sept. 13, Greenwich Free Press reported. The stand closes 30 minutes before the last ferry leaves for Greenwich Harbor, with grill service ending 15 minutes before the final departure.

"Riding the ferry and running the stand are a highlight of the summer for the dozen or so Abilis community members who work at the Island Beach Concession Stand," Abilis CEO Amy Montimurro said in a July 8 statement about the program.

Abilis, which serves more than 800 individuals with disabilities, staffs the stand with its community members and local teens.

Water testing continues

The town's beach water testing program runs through mid-September for Island Beach and Great Captain Island, outlasting the land-beach testing season, which ends after Labor Day.
