The Greenwich Art Society will host a plein air painting workshop at Tod's Point on Sunday, Oct. 4, led by Hudson Valley artist Andrew Lattimore.

The five-hour session runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greenwich Point Park, with a rain date of Oct. 11. Spaces are limited, and the society is accepting registrations at greenwichartsociety.org.

Lattimore, who has painted professionally for more than 40 years, teaches at the State University of New York at Purchase College and runs Lattimore Studio of Fine Art in Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. He trained at the National Academy of Fine Arts in New York under Daniel Greene, Edmond Fitzgerald and Harvey Dinnerstein, and studied life drawing and anatomy with Stephen R. Peck, author of "Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist," according to the society's event listing on Patch.

He also studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Lattimore is a recognized portrait painter represented by Portraits Inc. in New York, and his landscape work has been featured in PleinAir Magazine, according to his website. He conducts yearly plein air workshops in locations including Italy, Ireland, Maine and Vermont.

The workshop opens with a live painting demonstration by Lattimore. Participants then paint on their own while he circulates to offer one-on-one feedback, with a focus on color, value, texture, form and atmosphere.

All skill levels are welcome.

Participants must bring their own paints, palettes, canvases and outdoor easel. The society may be able to help arrange an easel for those who do not own one, according to the event listing. The workshop is carry-in, carry-out, with a half-hour lunch break. Attendees should pack their own food and drinks.

The Greenwich Art Society, based at 299 Greenwich Ave., describes its Studio School as the only visual arts program in Greenwich taught by professional artists. The society's Annual Members Fall Exhibit, "Between Here & There," curated by Antonia Pocock of the Whitney Museum, runs Oct. 22 through Nov. 19.
