Dr. Nancy Boksenbaum will lead two free outdoor mindfulness sessions at Greenwich Point's Seaside Garden on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Tuesday, Sept. 29, giving residents a guided hour among the waterfront plantings before fall settles in.
Both classes run from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and are open to anyone with a resident park pass. Registration is required through the Friends of Greenwich Point events calendar. The nonprofit, which maintains trails, gardens and programming at the park, organized the sessions; Jane Kuesel posted the announcement on the group's website Sunday, Aug. 9.
Boksenbaum, a clinical psychologist and relational psychoanalyst with a practice in Stamford, has taught mindfulness at Greenwich Point, Perrot Library in Old Greenwich and to local businesses. She walks the Point most mornings, a personal ritual she says helps her recalibrate and open her senses. In a profile published by Greenwich Magazine, she has described her teaching philosophy as rooted in the five senses, emphasizing their role in breaking what she calls the trance of autopilot.
At the September sessions, participants will practice introductory techniques for settling the mind and tuning into the sounds and scenery at the Point. No prior experience is needed.
If it rains, both classes move indoors to Innis Arden Cottage. Standard Greenwich Point parking and entry fees apply; resident park passes have been required since May 1.
