Byram families can pull up a lawn chair for a free hour of swing music Thursday, Aug. 6, when The Fairfield Counts bring their 17-member big band orchestra to the Byram Shubert Library parking lot at 21 Mead Ave.

The concert runs 7 to 8 p.m. No tickets or registration required. All ages welcome.

The Fairfield Counts have been performing across Connecticut and the New York City area for more than 40 years, according to the Greenwich Library's event listing. The ensemble includes a music director and a featured female vocalist, and its repertoire leans on swing and ballads from the 1930s, '40s and '50s, with contemporary tunes mixed in. The band bills itself as Fairfield County's premier swing big band and says it holds the region's largest big band music library.

The Friends of the Byram Shubert Library, the nonprofit that funds programming at the Mead Avenue branch, is sponsoring the performance. The group also sponsored a Tai Chi Games session for kids ages 5 and older with instructor Ken Dolan from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the library's Community Room, giving families a reason to spend the whole evening on the library grounds.

The Aug. 6 concert is part of the library's summer outdoor series. Country band GUNSMOKE played the same lot on July 16.

Admission is free. Bring your own seating.

The Byram Shubert Library's summer hours on Thursdays are noon to 8 p.m. The branch is open Monday through Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library can be reached at (203) 531-0426.
