The documentary "9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero" screens free at the Bruce Museum Auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m.

Executive producer Carolyn Lukensmeyer will lead a discussion with the audience after the film, according to the League of Women Voters of Greenwich event listing. The program runs until approximately 3:45 p.m. at 1 Museum Drive.

The Avon Theatre and the Bruce Museum are co-hosting the screening, the Greenwich Free Press reported. Three community partners will staff informational tables starting at 1:30 p.m. and again after the discussion: LWV Greenwich, CT Public and the Braver Angels Connecticut Alliance.

The documentary tells the story of a July 2002 gathering at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York known as "Listening to the City." More than 5,000 residents from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut came together to weigh in on six proposals for rebuilding the World Trade Center site. The forum helped reshape the direction of the rebuilding effort, according to a University of Southern Maine article about an earlier screening.

Lukensmeyer founded the nonprofit AmericaSpeaks in 1998 and helped design and lead the 2002 forum. In a February interview published by the University of Southern Maine, she described the film's message in personal terms.

"Watching this movie will be really inspiring about the capacity of ordinary people to do the right thing at the right time, if we create a safe space that gives them the opportunity to do that," Lukensmeyer said.

The Greenwich screening is part of a broader tour. The film screened at the Brooklyn Public Library on Sept. 10 and is scheduled at Smith College on Tuesday, Sept. 15, with Lukensmeyer attending each stop.

Seats are free. Advance registration through the Avon Theatre website is required. LWV Greenwich, led by President Mary Browne, is participating as part of its commitment to civic engagement and public dialogue, according to the event listing. Braver Angels, founded after the 2016 presidential election, hosts workshops and debates aimed at bringing Americans together across partisan lines.

The film is also available to rent or buy on Prime Video and streams free with ads on Tubi, according to distributor Freestyle Digital Media.
