Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones on Tuesday, July 21, appointed 17-year GHS science teacher Aimee Farnum as Greenwich High School's permanent science program administrator, effective July 21. The move fills a vacancy created when Shawn Hoyt left the role to become Central Middle School's assistant principal earlier this month.

Farnum has taught science at Greenwich High since 2009 and spent most of the 2025-26 school year running the department on an interim basis. She supervised and evaluated science teachers, collaborated with school and district leadership, and aligned the program with Connecticut and Next Generation Science Standards.

She is certified in biology, general science, and chemistry. Farnum also served as one of GHS's swim coaches during the 2025-26 school year and has supervised the district's extended school year program for the past two summers.

"She is respected by her co-workers as a great educator and special person within the halls of Greenwich High School," GHS Principal Ralph Mayo said in the district's announcement.

Jones praised Farnum's data-analysis skills and said the appointment was "a natural progression" given her interim performance. Farnum holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from the University of New England and a master's in secondary education from the University of Bridgeport, along with advanced certificates in educational leadership and administration.

Hoyt had served as GHS science program administrator since 2023. His appointment as Central Middle School assistant principal took effect July 13, following the departure of Scott Trungadi, who was named the district's educational data and systems program coordinator.
