Richard "Dick" Kriskey, who grew up in Byram and spent decades shaping Greenwich through elected boards and volunteer service, has died at 93.

Kriskey served 10 years on the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET), rising to chairman, and six years on the Board of Education, according to his obituary published by Greenwich Free Press. He chaired the Board of Assessment and Appeals for 16 years and was appointed to the Greenwich Library board by the First Selectman.

His civic reach was wide.

His longest commitment was to Greenwich Emergency Medical Service, known as GEMS, where he served more than 20 years and chaired the board. Town of Greenwich BET budget committee minutes from Feb. 11, 2013, show Kriskey presenting the GEMS budget to the committee. "The amount of calls has significantly decreased which translates into less revenue," Kriskey told the panel, explaining a 12.4% budget increase request. He appeared again as GEMS board chairman at the BET's February 2014 budget review.

Born at Greenwich Hospital on Aug. 18, 1933, Kriskey grew up in Byram and graduated from Greenwich High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, then earned a philosophy degree from Cathedral College in Huntington, New York. He married Regina Franco on Jan. 14, 1967, and joined her family's construction firm, Franco Brothers, Inc., which later became Livingston Builders LLC.

Beyond government boards, Kriskey was active in the Representative Town Meeting and served as a district chairman of the Republican Town Committee. He led the Greenwich Lions Club as president and sat on the boards of the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Hill House.

His family described him as someone who knew every street in town and every turn along the coastline. A longtime member of St. Mary Church, he served for decades as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of Burning Tree Country Club, where he sat on the Board of Governors, and Indian Harbor Yacht Club, where he gathered his family for Sunday night dinners.

Neighbors may have recognized Kriskey by his signature Nantucket reds and aviator sunglasses.

He treasured time at Tod's Point and enjoyed boating, sailing, skiing and golf. Kriskey was predeceased by his wife, Regina. He is survived by his children Richard Kriskey Jr. of Old Greenwich, Nancy Alonzo of San Anselmo, California, and Susan Entwistle of New Canaan, along with five grandchildren and his sister, Kathy Shea of Riverside.

Visiting hours are Monday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fred D. Knapp Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
