DeCicco & Sons will open its first Connecticut store at 21 Glenville St. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 a.m. The opening returns a full-service grocery to a Glenville neighborhood that has gone without one for more than three years.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m., the family-owned grocer said in a company announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The store is also the company's first expansion beyond New York.

The approximately 20,000-square-foot market fills the former Stop & Shop space, which went dark after that store closed in June 2023. DeCicco & Sons operates 11 locations across Westchester and Putnam counties in New York.

First Selectman Fred Camillo has pushed publicly for the store to open. "I know people are very eager to see this store open and I am one of them," Camillo said in an Aug. 21 post on the town's website, as reported by lohud. "It is so important to have a grocery store on the western side of Town."

At the Aug. 13 Board of Selectmen meeting, Camillo said the project had been delayed by a retaining wall issue on the property but that all permits had been secured, Patch reported.

CEO John DeCicco Jr. said in the announcement that Glenville felt like a natural fit for the grocer. Chris DeCicco, a partner in the business, said the family wants to know its customers and be a good neighbor in Greenwich.

The store will carry fresh produce, daily-delivered seafood, fresh sushi, store-made baked goods and a chopped salad station. Prepared foods will have a large presence, including hot food bars and ready-to-serve dinners. The company also plans to extend its school rebate program to Greenwich, letting customers direct support to local schools through everyday purchases.

John DeCicco Sr. and Joe DeCicco Sr. opened their first store in the Bronx in 1973, 14 years after arriving from Italy. Their sons founded the current company in 2006.
