Cos Cob residents lost their neighborhood postal counter on Friday, Aug. 7, when the United States Postal Service shut the doors at 152 E. Putnam Ave. for renovations.
No reopening date has been set.
The closure redirects roughly 7,000 Cos Cob residents to two alternative locations in Greenwich. USPS announced the shutdown in an Aug. 7 news release, first reported by Patch and confirmed by Greenwich Time.
USPS said in its release that it plans to reopen the Cos Cob office and have it fully operational as soon as possible, apologizing for the inconvenience to customers. The agency did not name a contractor, describe the scope of work or provide a timeline estimate.
Where to go instead
Retail window services are available at the downtown Greenwich Post Office, 44 Amogerone Crossway:
- Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Closed Sunday
Drop shipments are accepted at the Greenwich Post Office at 29 Valley Drive:
- Monday through Saturday, 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What's not clear
USPS has not disclosed what renovations are planned, whether the building will remain accessible for P.O. box holders, or how mail carriers serving Cos Cob routes will be affected. Residents with questions can check usps.com or call the downtown Greenwich office.
